INVIGORATE + CLEAR: Ayurveda Tips for April
Holistic Practices to Support Seasonal Living in Brookfield, WI
In Ayurveda, April brings us fully into Kapha season, as spring settles in and the qualities of earth and water become more dominant.
As warmth and moisture increase, Kapha’s heavy and slow qualities can accumulate in both the environment and the body. This may show up as congestion, sluggish digestion, low motivation, or seasonal allergies.
April invites us to invigorate the body and clear stagnation after winter’s buildup. By emphasizing stimulation, movement, and lighter choices, we support circulation, digestion, and renewed energy as spring continues to unfold.
Tip #1: Start the Day Without Slowing Down
As Kapha begins to rise, shift toward lighter meals that support digestion. Steamed greens, bitter vegetables, legumes, and brothy soups help the body release winter heaviness. Try Moonflower’s INSPIRE (Strong Flow) class to get moving in the morning.
Tip #2: Try Garshana (Dry Brushing)
Using the traditional raw silk gloves, a natural bristle brush, or a textured cloth, Garshana gently exfoliates the skin while stimulating circulation and lymphatic flow. It is both energizing and awakening — a practice that invites movement, warmth, and clarity into the body. Learn how to practice Garshana here.
Tip #3: Incorporate Bitter + Astringent Foods
Foods like leafy greens, asparagus, turmeric, and herbal bitters help clear excess Kapha and support liver and digestive function.
Tip #4: Reduce Heavy + Sweet Foods
Limit excess dairy, fried foods, refined sugars, and large portions which can aggravate Kapha.
Tip #5: Get Outside + Embrace Fresh Air
Sunlight, fresh air, and time in nature help uplift mood, increase energy, and support seasonal renewal.
